Ads for plumbers that bring the jobs worth driving to
A burst pipe at 2 AM and a water heater replacement next month are different customers. I run ads for both, track every call to the job it became, and cut what only brings price shoppers.

Where plumbing companies lose ad money
Emergency clicks at hours nobody answers
Ads that run around the clock while the phone goes to voicemail after 6 PM pay emergency prices for calls that end up with the next plumber. The ad schedule has to match the phone schedule, hour by hour.
Searches for work you don’t do
How to unclog a drain, water heater parts, septic pumping when you don’t pump septic, plumber jobs near me. Every one of those is a paid click unless it is excluded, and in plumbing they add up fast.
Small calls crowding out the big jobs
A clogged drain and a repipe both count as one lead. If the ads only learn from calls, they find more small calls. Water heater replacements, repipes and sewer lines need their own ads, their own pages and their own tracking.
Local Services leads in the wrong area
Since 2024 Google credits invalid Local Services Ads leads automatically and no longer credits leads for job types or areas you don’t serve. A loose profile now costs money every month.
What these searches cost on Google
Real searches from Google’s own Keyword Planner, across the United States. The bid range is what advertisers paid to appear at the top of the page: the lower number is the cheaper end of the market, the higher one is what the most aggressive competitors pay.

Emergency searches like 24 hour plumber cost about as much as general plumber searches at the top of the range, so running them only pays when someone answers at night. Water heater searches tell a useful story: people who search the cost of a replacement are cheap to reach, and they are about to spend. And cheap plumbers near me costs nearly as much as any other search while bringing the most price-driven callers.

What works for plumbing companies
Local Services Ads
The Google Guaranteed badge at the top of the page, paid per lead. For most plumbers it is the cheapest source of emergency calls.
Search split by urgency
Emergency searches like burst pipe or no hot water get call ads during the hours you answer. Planned work like water heater replacement or repiping gets its own ads, a page with financing and a form.
Calls tracked by job type
Each call is tagged by what it was and what it became, so the budget moves to the work with the best margin, not the most calls.
Meta for planned work
Water heater replacements and repiping in older homes are planned decisions. Meta reaches homeowners in your area before the emergency.
Rules to know
Local Services Ads require a background check and license verification. I walk you through it and keep job types, hours and service area matched to the work you want.
Several states require your license number in advertising. Florida does, under section 489.119 of its statutes, and that includes plumbing contractors. On Meta, ads for housing repairs fall under the housing special ad category, which removes targeting by age, gender and ZIP code and requires a radius of at least 15 miles. I plan Meta campaigns within those limits.
A year of ads for plumbing companies
December to February
In cold states, frozen and burst pipe searches spike with each freeze. Raise bids on emergency terms the day temperatures drop and make sure the on-call plumber gets the alerts.
March to May
Planned work: water heater replacement, repiping and sewer line inspections, with financing on the page. Meta works well here.
June to August
Steady service demand plus outdoor work like irrigation and sewer lines. In hurricane areas, keep emergency budget ready for flooding.
September to November
Water heater and pre-winter inspection offers before the cold. A good time to win the replacements that were put off all year.
Budget and price
Plumbing usually starts at $1,500 a month or more on Google. If you take emergency calls at night, the ads can run at night too. If nobody answers at night, they shouldn’t.
What a budget buys at the average
- Ad spend a month
- $3,000
- Leads at $90.92
- 33
- If half of them book a job
- 17
About 17 booked jobs a month. An illustration from the average cost per lead, not a forecast: your city, your offer and how fast leads get a reply move every number here.
My fee is flat: $900 a month for one channel or $1,500 for Google and Meta, never a percentage of your spend. Setup is free when you start with 3 months.
- Month to month, ad accounts in your name
- If you leave, the accounts and history stay with you, no exit fee
- Reports count calls and leads, not clicks
- Confidential: I never name my clients
Setup checklist
- Local Services Ads verified, with job types and service area set to what you really do
- Emergency campaigns running only during hours with a plumber on call
- Separate campaigns and pages for water heaters, repiping and sewer lines
- Call tracking by job type, so a drain clog and a repipe are not counted the same
- Your license number in the ads and on the landing page where your state requires it
- Missed call text back in place before any night campaign goes live
Mistakes that cost the most
Night ads with no one on call
The most expensive clicks in plumbing arrive at night. If they go to voicemail, the budget pays for leads that call your competitor next.
Water heaters buried in a general campaign
Water heater searches are some of the highest-value work in plumbing, and in a general campaign they compete for budget with drain clogs. They deserve their own campaign.
No list of excluded searches
Parts, DIY and job searches look like plumbing to Google. Without a weekly review, they take a real share of the budget.
Missed the call at 2 AM? An automatic text answers in a minute, and water heater quotes get followed up on their own.
See automation for plumbing companiesQuestions owners ask
How much should a plumbing company spend on Google Ads?
Plumbing sits in the home services category, where the 2026 average is about $91 per lead. At that average, $1,500 a month buys roughly 16 leads and $3,000 about 33. I usually start plumbers at $1,500 or more on Google, with more weight on the hours and services that bring the best jobs.
Should plumbing ads run 24/7?
Only if someone answers 24/7. Emergency clicks at night are worth a lot when a plumber picks up, and nothing when the call goes to voicemail. If you have an on-call plumber, the night ads can run with an automatic text back as a safety net. If not, they pause until morning.
Local Services Ads or Google search ads for plumbers?
Both, usually. Local Services Ads bring the cheapest emergency calls, but you don’t choose keywords or write the ad, and your position depends on reviews and how fast you answer. Search ads give you control over which jobs you chase, which is how you get more water heaters and repipes.
How do I get more water heater and repipe jobs instead of small calls?
Give them their own campaigns and pages, with the price range and financing on the page, and send the sold jobs back to Google so the ads learn what a good lead looks like. Small calls still come in, but they stop setting the direction of the budget.
Do Meta ads work for plumbers?
For planned work, yes: water heater replacement, repiping, water filtration. For emergencies people search, so Google comes first. Meta’s housing rules limit targeting for repair ads, so the audience is your service area as a whole, and the ad itself does the filtering.
Can you track which calls became jobs?
Yes. Calls are tracked by source, and booked or sold jobs are matched back to the ad, from your field software when it allows it or from a short weekly update.
