Ad budget calculator for local businesses

Your ad budget should come from the customers you want, not from a round number. Divide the new customers you want a month by your close rate to get the leads you need, then multiply by your cost per lead. The calculator below fills in the 2026 average cost per lead for your industry and shows every step of the math.

Fills in the 2026 average cost per lead. You can change it below.
Out of every 100 leads, how many buy. Ask your team or check last year.
Monthly ad budget
$3,637
Leads needed

Cost per customer
$364
Revenue from them

10 customers ÷ 25% close rate = 40 leads. 40 leads × $90.92 per lead = $3,637 a month in ads, paid to Google or Meta. Management fees are separate.

How to read the result

The close rate moves everything. Going from 20% to 30% of leads becoming customers cuts the budget for the same goal by a third. That number lives in your office, not in the ad account: how fast leads get a reply, whether estimates get followed up, whether calls are answered.

Averages hide peaks. Home services clicks cost far more in a heat wave or after a storm, and legal clicks in large cities cost several times the national average. Plan for the months that matter, not for the average month.

Give it time to learn. Google and Meta need a steady flow of conversions to optimize. A budget that only buys a handful of leads a month learns slowly, which is why I usually start Google at $1,500 a month or more and Meta at $500.

Questions owners ask

How much should a small business spend on Google Ads?
Start from the customers you want, not from a round number. Customers wanted divided by your close rate gives the leads you need, and leads times your cost per lead gives the budget. At the 2026 all-industry average of about $67 per lead, 10 customers at a 25% close rate need 40 leads, or roughly $2,700 a month.
Where do the cost per lead numbers come from?
From LocaliQ’s 2026 search advertising benchmarks, updated June 1, 2026. They are national averages for Google search. Your city, your offer and your competition can move them a lot, so treat them as a starting point and replace them with your own numbers once you have them.
Does the budget include the agency fee?
No. The calculator shows what you pay Google or Meta. Management is separate. Mine is a flat $900 a month for one channel or $1,500 for both, never a percentage of the budget.
What if the budget comes out higher than I can spend?
Raise the close rate before you raise the budget. Answering every lead in minutes and following up on every estimate usually moves the close rate more than any change to the ads, and it lowers the budget the same goal needs.
