How to give an agency access to your Meta ads

Leo Agostini

Never share your password. In Meta Business Suite, go to Settings, Users, Partners, choose Add and Give a partner access to your assets, and enter the agency’s business portfolio ID. Then share your ad account with partial access to manage campaigns, plus your Page, Instagram and pixel. Your card, your ownership and your other settings stay with you.

Before you start

  • You need full access to your own business portfolio.
  • Two-factor authentication must be on for your portfolio.
  • Your ad account should already be inside your portfolio. If it isn’t, see the last section.

Add Cazullo as a partner

One partner connection gives me access to the assets you choose, each with its own level. Nothing moves out of your business portfolio.

Only a personal ad account?

Many owners started boosting posts from a personal profile, with no business portfolio. The safe path is to create a free business portfolio in your own name, add your ad account to it under Settings, Accounts, Ad accounts, Add an ad account, and then share it as above.

Create a business portfolioOpen Ad accounts in Meta Business Suite

The one thing to avoid: an agency adding your ad account to its own portfolio. Meta’s help page warns that the account may move there permanently and can’t be transferred back. Keep the account in your portfolio and share access instead.

Questions owners ask

Does the agency need my Facebook password?
No, and you should never share it. Meta’s partner sharing gives the agency’s business portfolio access to the assets you pick, with the level you pick, and you can remove it at any time.
Who pays Meta when an agency runs my ads?
The payment method on your ad account. With partial access to manage campaigns, the agency spends from your ad account but can’t see or change your finances or permissions.
What if I only have a personal ad account and no business portfolio?
Create a free business portfolio in your name, add your ad account to it, and then share it with the agency. Don’t let an agency add your ad account into its own portfolio: Meta warns that the account may move there permanently.
Why does Meta ask for two-factor authentication?
Meta lists two-factor authentication on your business portfolio as a requirement before sharing assets with a partner. It protects your ads and your card from anyone who gets hold of a password.
